“Fragments” by Rebeccah J.W. Cope

A rainbow sunset“Shattered bits of broken glass

cast blurred reflections through jagged edges

and lie scattered about the dusted ground.

Puzzled by their sharp separation,

their foggy lenses cut to the truth

and spread light where once there was darkness.

Resilient yet worn,

they sit in witness and watch the angled world tilt.”

(I’ve got a tune to go with this poem now, too.  It’s very rough!!)

“Fog in the Night” by Rebeccah J.W. Cope

A threatening chill in the air,

and the world goes dark.

Unbalanced, it tilts in a shifting atmosphere,

unhinged by catastrophic occurrences that have recently taken place

within its waters and throughout its lands.

Fog settles in amongst the massive, loathing population

and all are moved to find distracted solace in sinful places

or in frivolous wasters of what should be considered precious time.

Darkness creeps into all and seeps into the unstable cracks,

splitting the world asunder, rocking the foundation of it all,

and shaking it into chaotic movement that spins out of control.

I grab for the Earth.

I embrace its terra-firmness and honor it as my base and my soul provider.

I cry out to the birds and reach for an olive branch.

I seek out solutions to illuminate the sad world,

wishing to cast light onto the dark and ominous shadows

and to brighten our prospects for a better day.
